Welcome to the Alta Vista Public School website. I thank you for your interest and time.

I am so pleased to be joining the Alta Vista community as Principal for the 2009-2010 school year. I have just completed five years as Principal of J.H Putman school, a dual track middle school  (grades 6-8), and prior to that served for fours years as the Principal of Woodroffe Ave. P.S., an early French immersion centre (JK-grade 6). I am looking forward to many years of working with students, staff, parents and community members to carry on a tradition of excellence and innovation.

The staff at Alta Vista is dedicated to making the years at Alta Vista challenging and productive and nurturing for every student. School life at Alta Vista offers a varied range of activities as well as a strong academic program where staff and students work towards the Ottawa Carleton School Board's mission statement: Educating for success- Inspiring Learning and Building Citizenship. Staff work to ensure that all facets of that mission statement are evident in all aspects of school life at Alta Vista.

By the very fact that you have chosen to visit the Alta Vista P.S. website, you have shown an interest in children’s education. We know that student achievement is optimized by the efforts of students supported by teachers, support staff, parents and the community. 

In my short experience with Alta Vista, I have already seen what a vibrant community this is. I invite you to join in to support what is already strong and to be part of those who are committed to sustained student growth and student academic achievement. 

This webpage has the goal of informing parents and students and showcasing school activities with the view to supporting students’ achievement, developing pride in their school and citizenship at large.
